In fall 2006, I\u00a0suffered a totally unexpected heart attack. It was\u00a0a huge\u00a0shock\u00a0to myself, my family\u00a0and my\u00a0friends. After four weeks of therapy I slowly ‘came back to life’. Medical tests showed that I walked away with\u00a0virtually no physical limitations.\u00a0Those weeks in therapy gave me\u00a0plenty of time to think about my new life situation and\u00a0I came to the obvious conclusion that I had to correct some former habits\u00a0— especially stop smoking,\u00a0eat differently\u00a0and get daily exercise.<\/p>\n
My new daily\u00a0workout included cycling, which I had always loved,\u00a0and I envisioned crossing the USA on a\u00a0bicycle! There were several reasons to challenge myself in this way. First of all, I was looking for motivation in my life.\u00a0Having biked for years it was clear to me that I wanted to\u00a0do a bigger trip\u00a0on my mountain bike.<\/p>\n
Twenty years ago, I travelled and lived for several months in the USA. During one of my first stays in California, I discovered the\u00a0thrills of mountain biking in the Sausalito area, which is\u00a0where the sport\u00a0was born. I’ve been hooked ever since!<\/p>\n
Another important aspect of my\u00a0vision to cross the USA by bike was\u00a0to show heart-attack patients, their relatives and also healthy people that there is a way to create a new and positive life after\u00a0a\u00a0life-threatening\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n
After months of\u00a0daily bike training,\u00a0I have\u00a0prepared for\u00a0and organized the whole trip. I have partners on board,\u00a0completed my\u00a0homepage, evaluated the equipment and planned\u00a0the route. <\/span>I’m so\u00a0excited\u00a0about this tour and I hope you will follow my adventure with enthusiasm!
